Who are we
Children North East are a regional charity delivering services and support initiatives that provide a platform for children young people and families to work through issues, take action and provide them with the tools to reach their full potential.
What is Poverty Proofing©
Poverty Proofing© is a way of talking and listening to people. Poverty Proofing takes place in schools, healthcare settings, museums, leisure centres and communities and it is a way of making sure that everyone who wants or needs to can access places and are treated fairly.
Why am I being asked to take part?
Sunderland Culture have asked Children North East to help to make sure that the services they provide is poverty proofed©. This means that they want to do all that they can to take away or make smaller the challenges that people visiting their venues might face. Before they can do this, they need to understand what these problems and challenges are and you are best placed to tell them because of your experience visiting.
What do I have to do?
For consultation in setting with children under 16:
We will come into the setting that your child is in while under the supervision of Art Centre Washington/National Glass Centre/Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art/Sunderland Winter Gardens and Museum. We will ask them questions centred around access to Sunderland Culture, what they think and what they want to see changed. After speaking to lots of the community and people within the settings, Children North East will write a report to let Sunderland Culture know what it can do to better support people who visit their settings and learn about what changes it can make. What your child says will be anonymised, this means your child will not be named or identified in any way.
How long will it take?
This is entirely up to you. Conversations are led by you and can take as little or as long as you need.
Can children take part?
Children under the ae of 16 can take part with the consent of a parent or a guardian. Young people aged 16 and over can give their own consent.
Will I be compensated for my time?
No, taking part is voluntary.
What will be recorded?
- Your answers to all of the questions will be written down.
- Any information taken will be anonymous in any notes taken.
- Everything you say will be treated confidentially, the only exception to this would be if the interviewer was worried about your safety or welfare.
